Letter from the Superintendent

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

It has been great to get back into the swing of things over the past several weeks, and we are so glad to have all of our students back again.  I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable holiday. The spring semester is always filled with lots of learning and wonderful opportunities for our students, and we are looking forward to a very successful second half of the school year.

We are excited to announce that the Board of Trustees adopted our 2026-2027 Instructional Calendar, and we are appreciative of so many of you who took the time to provide your feedback.  Our instructional calendar was designed to maximize learning time and serve our staff, students, and community well for next school year.

We also recently hired Coach Darby House as our new Athletic Director and Head Football Coach, following an extensive search process.  We are very exited to welcome Coach House and his family to the Tiger Family!

SISD welcomed a wonderful crowd on Tuesday, January 20 to celebrate the designation of the Mary A. Brown School as a historical site in Smithville, TX.  Having the opportunity to celebrate this milestone with our community and school district was incredibly memorable.  We had a special presentation from SHS Senior Briyanna Sampson, and several of our Brown Primary students sang for the group, absolutely stealing the show!  Alta Yevett Alexander, who led the charge on bring this historical designation to fruition, gave a heartfelt speech about the importance of the Mary A. Brown school to the African American community.  It was a beautiful event!
