Letter from the Superintendent

It’s hard to believe that the fall semester has already come to an end, and what an eventful and exciting time it has been. I can’t wait to see what the New Year has in store for Smithville ISD!

As we finished the semester strong, I found myself reflecting over these first several months of the school year with deep gratitude.  The community of Smithville has welcomed me with open arms, and I’m excited about all the amazing experiences and opportunities that we provide for our students, as well as the care that our staff show for them each day. I’m also looking forward with hope about what the future holds, as we continue to work towards enhancing opportunities for our students to learn, grow, and succeed.

As we reflect on the fall semester, a few highlights include:

  • Student enrollment hit an all-time high of 1,860 this fall, and we are closely monitoring the potential for growth with so much industry and development in Bastrop County. We have engaged with Zonda Demographics to evaluate enrollment projections in the coming years, and will be sharing information from their study in early spring 2026.
  • We appreciate our SISD community’s engagement in providing feedback regarding next year’s instructional calendar. We received 589 responses to our recent calendar survey, and anticipate adoption of the 2026-27 instructional calendar in January 2026.
  • Our students have demonstrated excellence across a number of areas, including academics, band, athletics, theater,  FFA, and more! We recognize outstanding accomplishments each month at our Board Meetings, and you can expect to see more about these in our upcoming newsletters.
  • We are continuing to expand partnerships and strengthen our Career and Technology (CTE) programs. We are proud to share that five Smithville High School students who were dually enrolled with ACC graduated from ACC with their welding certification earlier this month!

While there is much more to celebrate, I hope these highlights offer a window into some of the great things happening in Smithville ISD. As we enter the winter holiday season, I extend warm wishes to you and your families.
